Our primary objective is to help management deliver strong, sustainable growth.
We invest in growth businesses, collaborating with ambitious management teams to develop a detailed understanding of the businesses we back, taking a long-term view of their potential.
The team that works on the deal with you will work alongside you throughout the course of the investment. The investment team leads the transaction and supports management to shape the strategic agenda. Our commercial team works with management to help identify, prioritise and execute specific growth opportunities.
Over 40 years we have developed a global network of trusted advisers, executives, non-executives and investors who we work with to help our portfolio companies maximise their potential.
We work with entrepreneurs and management teams who focus on growth.
We are an active partner, helping the teams we back by:
Maximising organic growth through investment in sales, marketing and new product development
Working with customer data to improve market segmentation, customer retention and pricing
Actively looking at international expansion and opening new channels to existing markets
Improving operational efficiency to help businesses scale quickly to meet demand
Recruiting key talent for roles in sales, marketing, operations, technology and finance
Seeking acquisitions to help scale the customer base or accelerate new product development
At Citation, we worked with Chris Morris and his team to improve the effectiveness of sales and marketing.
This involved improving the productivity of the outbound call centre, working with the field sales team to improve conversion rates, and developing new channels to market.
This delivered year-on-year growth in new business of 35%, resulting in a significant uplift in EBITDA.
35% growth in new business wins
At Bargain Booze, we worked with Diana Hunter and the team to help mine their consumer data and identify groups of consumers who represented real growth opportunities for the business.
The consumer segmentation helped build an organic plan which in turn helped underpin the successful IPO of the business.
600+ Franchise Stores
At Wireless Logic, we worked with Oliver Tucker and Phil Cole to map out and execute a faster route to becoming the leading M2M platform in Europe.
By opening offices simultaneously in Germany, France and Spain and being flexible on the operating and funding model in each market, we helped accelerate growth. This established a leading position in Europe which helped underpin the sale to CVC.
Sales Into 38 Countries
At CarTrawler, we worked with Mike McGearty and the team to help accelerate the on-boarding of new travel partners (airlines, online travel companies, etc.) and to streamline decisions between car supply and pricing.
This helped CarTrawler deliver 41% compound annual sales growth prior to the sale to BC Partners and Insight Ventures.
At XLN, we helped Christian Nellemann build and develop his executive team with the appointment of Neil Conaghan as CFO, James Wilson as Online Sales Director, Saeed Sheikh as Customer Services Director and Neil Pirie as Integration Director.
The expanded executive team helped XLN drive towards its multi utility strategy and ultimately underpin the successful exit to Blackstone.
Over 250,000 SME Customers
At Fourth, Ben Hood and the wider team were keen to grow the footprint of the business in North America. Through our advisory networks we helped the team source an investment opportunity in Adaco, a Connecticut based specialist in the Hotels sector.
Within 12 months of our investment in Fourth, a deal with Adaco was signed and the team had their bridgehead into America. This expansion was critical in positioning the business for its sale to Insight Ventures.

On each investment we make, a member of the Commercial Team will work with you both pre and post investment. Our integrated approach ensures that the Deal Team you partner with at ECI will work alongside you throughout the course of the entire investment period.
The Commercial Team is a unique feature at ECI Partners, built explicitly to help management maximise the growth potential of their business.
ECI established the Commercial Team in 2008 with the objective of providing experienced execution support for all fund investments. Each investment is different and we work with the board to prioritise the key initiatives that drive longer term capital value.
This could include support on potential acquisitions, new product development or market segmentation and positioning. Commercial Team support is always at the behest of the Board and with the sole intent of helping to accelerate growth.
The Commercial Team is ‘part of the package’ teams get with ECI. We will also have one ECI Partner join the company’s board and will jointly appoint, with the team, an independent Non-Executive Director who typically chairs shareholder board meetings.

They understand the sector well, and have done a lot of work. They are very thorough and diligent in their approach, and the Commercial Team have been invaluable in this investment.
From an executive team’s point of view, the PE firm’s track record in the sector is more important than just sector expertise. ECI could point to LateRooms, Holiday Autos and other successes, that is a key differentiator and brings great comfort.
ECI were an excellent partner for a firm like ourselves with aspirations of growth. They offered long-term growth opportunities, strong governance and the opportunity to mature without losing our entrepreneurial edge.
What’s interesting about ECI is they have a very understated style. You know, but behind that there’s a kind of steely rigour and discipline, and consistency, I’d say, across the team as well.
They came across as calm, thoughtful, intelligent people and they did so well before I started working with them at Great Rail Journeys.
ECI’s team are extremely focused on the actual business and what makes it tick. They didn’t confuse the process with complex deal structures.
ECI’s team are very mindful of what they’ve got in their portfolio. They reach into their network.
The sale process was happening whilst the euro crisis was in full swing, so the timing was critical and we valued ECI’s enthusiasm and reputation for being able to deliver.
ECI is the UK's leading mid-market private equity (PE) firm, specialising in management buyouts, buyins and development capital deals.
